Tax Questions for US Citizens Living in Canada

October 30th, 2008 by admin

There are many American citizens living in Canada with tax questions. For some people, the bulk of their income is from their own home-based business registered in Canada.

Also, if they have dependent children, they could have even more complicated tax questions. Common questions are: What is the most advantageous way of reporting income on annual taxes – as foreign earned income, or as self-employment income?

Also, since the children are likely American citizens as well and if the income is generally within the range that allows for the EIC, etc, common tax questions are about ways to qualify for the EIC payments and similar benefits even though they do not live within the US for a minimum of 6 months out of the year.
