Chronic Sleep Deprivation and Heart Disease

Chronic sleep deprivation is linked to a higher risk of heart disease as well as diabetes, obesity and other health problem. Researchers hypothesised that a lack of sleep leads to increased nervous system activity throughout the day, which may in turn stress the cardiovascular system. Sleep deprivation can be caused by snoring where a person is constantly woken up during sleep. Snoring is caused by partial blockage of the airways. More serious is sleep apnea where a sufferer actually stop breathing during sleep. Sleep apnea is caused by total blockage of the airways.
