Forgetting All Your Piano Lessons in Five Seconds

January 22nd, 2008 by admin

No matter what sort of Piano Lessons you’ve had, and personally, as a beginner, I recommend Piano Tuition Software which you can download from the web, there will come a time when you’ll have to play in front of other people for the first time.

All I can say is that I hate it. I can sit at home on my own and practise a small piece again and again until, at last, it comes out properly and I can start to feel just a little proud of myself. I can even begin to play the piece in different ways, softly and sensitively, or loudly with a more percussive approach, showing perhaps a bit more bravado. I can even adjust the speed of playing to range from slow and languorous to brisk and chirpy.

But as soon as I sit down in front of others, no matter how critical or uncritical they may be, it all simply goes out of the window. Even if I try to play it in front of my kids, who frankly, couldn’t care less whether I played it at all, I start to hit wrong notes, and once that happens it’s all downhill from then on. I guess I’m just destined to be a play alone Johnny. But never mind, I’ll crack it in the end. At least I can play now, so that’s one milestone passed!
