Before the age of the Internet, it wasn’t possible for a business to have some of their functions performed in another country. If they didn’t want to or weren’t able to do a task themselves, they hired a local company to do it for them. Now, though, an insurance company may have their claims processed in India, or a company may have a customer service center in the Philippines. This is known as offshore business process outsourcing. For many businesses, it can save a tremendous amount of money. Because other countries have lower wages, they can pay these companies a lot less than companies in the United States.
