Video games and your heart

November 21st, 2008 by admin

More and more violent games are being sold to video game lovers nowadays. Apart from amusement, I think people actually buy these kinds of games as stress busters. But did you know that violent wii games alter the players’ heart rates – both during play and during sleep afterwards – more than non-violent games? I’ve read in one website that scientists in Sweden have studied and proven this by monitoring a boy’s heart rate before, during, and after playing a violent video game compared to playing the games that do not exhibit violence. The effect even continued during the entire night while the boy slept, although he did not report feeling as though he slept poorly. The study showed that the central nervous system would be affected by violent video games without the playing even noticing as they don’t register on a conscious level. While this may be great business for advertisers, I believe these may very well be effects we don’t want our kids to experience.
